Pianist Emmet Cohen and his trio with bassist Russell Hall and drummer Kyle Poole have welcomed many special guests to their weekly Live Streams, both veterans and up-and-coming young players.
Falling into the latter category (although both are increasingly seasoned young veterans) are altoist Alexa Tarantino and trumpeter Tatum Greenblatt.
The quintet takes “Alone Together” (which is sometimes a ballad) at a surprisingly fast tempo with Cohen leading off the proceedings after the melody statement with a solo that gets more complex as it progresses.
Greenblatt enters in explosive fashion and does not let up, Tarantino (who has a great tone) is particularly inventive during her solo, and drummer Poole makes a joyful statement before the piece ends.
