Thelonious Monk performs his classic composition “Blue Monk” at a 1966 concert in Norway.

“Blue Monk,” with its inventive melody, jagged rhythms, and dissonant piano punctuations, is a classic Monk composition. Along with “Tenor Madness,” “Blues for Alice,” and others, the song is one of bebop’s best-known blues tunes.

Personnel:

Thelonious Monk – piano
Charlie Rouse – tenor sax
Larry Gales – bass
Ben Riley – drums
