Ben Webster swings the Duke Ellington tune on American TV c. 1960

Personnel:

Ben Webster, tenor sax
Buck Clayton, trumpet
Vic Dickenson, trombone
Hank Jones, piano
George Duvivier, bass
Jo Jones, drums

It’s a simple 12 bar blues in – you guessed it – C major

Credit for the tune went New Orleans-born clarinetist Barney Bigard and Duke Ellington. When Ellington veteran Barney Bigard moved to the Louis Armstrong band, it became a favorite of Armstrong’s too.
