In 1966, the drummer extraordinaire Art Blakey led his Jazz Messengers in an electrifying performance of “The Egyptian,” showcasing the incredible talents of Lee Morgan on trumpet and John Gilmore on tenor saxophone. This memorable performance was captured by the BBC for the iconic jazz television program “Jazz 625.”

Art Blakey’s contributions to music were duly recognized over the years. In 1982, he earned a place in the Jazz Hall of Fame, followed by a posthumous induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. His enduring legacy was further celebrated in 2005 when he was honored with the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
