Dear Heart

Laurindo Almeida

The Brazilian guitarist performs a Henry Mancini song

A brilliant acoustic guitarist from Brazil, Laurindo Almeida spent his life performing pieces that emphasized his beautiful sound, whether interpreting Brazilian classical music, jazz, or music that fell in between.

On this film clip from 1992, Almeida (74 at the time) is introduced by Henry Mancini before launching into a solo version of Mancini’s “Dear Heart.”

While Laurindo Almeida’s virtuosity is obvious, he keeps the melody close by during the exquisite performance.
