Cannonball Adderley led a series of memorable groups for 15 years, but arguably his greatest one was his sextet of 1963.

In addition to Adderley’s “brass section” (cornetist Nat Adderley) and a top-notch rhythm section, the sextet had Yusef Lateef, whose presence inspired the musicians to be at the top of their game.

A rollicking version of “Dizzy’s Business” (performed at a concert in Switzerland) has creative solos by Cannonball, Nat (who was in his peak period) and a particularly imaginative statement by Lateef.

Personnel:

Cannonball Adderley, alto sax
Nat Adderley, cornet
Yusef Lateef, tenor
Joe Zawinul, piano
Sam Jones, bass
Louis Hayes, drums

– Scott Yanow
