Cornetist Nat Adderley wrote “Jive Samba” during the height of the early 1960s bossa nova craze and it became a permanent part of the Adderley repertoire.

The catchy song has a slightly unusual structure, and inspires colorful solos on this 1963 performance from Switzerland.

Altoist Cannonball Adderley is soulful, typically joyful in his sound, and forward-looking in his ideas.

Nat Adderley takes an exuberant and colorful solo (hitting some impressive high notes), Yusef Lateef is masterful on flute, and Joe Zawinul is also heard from during this fine performance.

Personnel:

Cannonball Adderley, alto sax
Nat Adderley, cornetist
Yusef Lateef, flute
Joe Zawinul, piano
Sam Jones, bass
