Steve Turre has been one of the top trombonists in jazz since the late 1960s, working with Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, the Saturday Night Live band since 1985, and leading over 20 albums of his own.

In addition, he is famous for his very musical use of sea shells.

For this 2016 performance with the Airmen Of Note (one of the finest of the military jazz big bands), Turre performs “Little Dave,” a J.J. Johnson tune that uses the same chord pattern as “Impressions.”

Steve Turre is in the spotlight throughout the performance, displaying creative ideas and a solid use of dynamics.
