Introduced by trumpeter Al Hirt as the “Stradivarius of Pianists”, Johnny Guarnieri displays his versatility with an arrangement of Scott Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag” performed in 5/4 time.
Johnny Guarnieri studied classical piano in his youth before switching to jazz.
Among the greatest of his inspirations was the Harlem stride of Fats Waller.
During his performances in later years, Guarnieri would often apply the 5/4 time signature to his own highly developed stride piano style.
