Erroll Garner (1921-77) was a brilliant and very original pianist whose orchestral sound and style were instantly recognizable and very popular for decades.

While much was always made of the fact that Garner did not read music, he wrote some excellent compositions with “Misty” becoming a well-known standard.

Garner composed “Misty” in 1954 and performed it at virtually every live performance that he gave during the next 32 years.

This rendition is from the Ed Sullivan Show of Mar. 26, 1961 and has Garner, in superb form, accompanied by an unseen string orchestra.
