Although one does not always think of the Latin jazz standard “My Little Suede Shoes” as being a Charlie Parker composition, it is actually one of Bird’s most popular originals.
Bill Frisell has always been open to performing with other guitarists while Julian Lage has long been one of the top guitarists from the generations that followed Frisell.
Performed at a house concert on Dec. 1, 2021, this relaxed yet stirring rendition of the Parker song features the two guitarists playing around the melody, echoing each other’s thoughts (with Lage often playing lead), and creating music that is both spontaneous and joyous.
