Two of the giants of jazz of the past couple of decades team up on an inventive, surprising and ultimately swinging version of a Sonny Rollins classic.
For their version of “Oleo” from around 2015, tenor-saxophonist Joshua Redman starts out playing unaccompanied before pianist Brad Mehldau joins in during the melody and then they both create rather dazzling improvisations.
This is a performance that will certainly wake up listeners with its energy, fireworks, and joyful creativity.
