In his weekly series of online performances during the COVID period, pianist Emmet Cohen has uplifted the spirits of many isolated jazz fans by featuring his versatile trio with talented guests.
While one thinks of Cohen as being a bop-based pianist, he is also equally at home playing early jazz styles as shown on this hot version of “Russian Lullaby.”
Cohen and his trio (bassist Russell Hall and drummer Kyle Poole) are in exuberant form while joined by clarinetist Evan Christopher (who takes a particularly inspired solo) and trumpeter Jon-Erik Kellso on a blazing version of “Russian Lullaby.”
