Sullivan Fortner is a talented and versatile pianist who worked with Stefon Harris (2009), Roy Hargrove’s quintet (2010-17), and Cecile McLorin Salvant (2016-21) in addition to leading his own groups.

On this solo piano performance from Oct. 6, 2021, Sullivan Fortner (who can play anything from stride to free), begins quietly and then, creates an intriguing free improvisation filled with unexpected moments.

The result is a new piece that swings in its own way, looking back in time and into the future simultaneously.
