Summer Breeze – 1973

Ramsey Lewis

An accessible and grooving piece

Ramsey Lewis (1935-2022) was one of the most popular of all jazz pianists, developing an accessible and lightly funky style although he could also play bop and swing.

In the 1970s, Lewis successfully transferred his piano style to electric piano although he ended his career back on acoustic.

“Summer Breeze,” which he recorded with a larger ensemble in 1974, is the type of melodic piece that Lewis enjoyed grooving on in the 1970s.

Ramsey Lewis is featured on electric piano along with bassist Cleveland Eaton and drummer Morris Jennings.
