A rapid version of the Dixieland standard

Through the years, many modern jazz musicians have made fun or looked down upon Dixieland players, saying that their music is simple to play.

While that may be true at times, this version of “That’s A Plenty” certainly takes some chops.

From the Ed Sullivan Show in 1961, trumpeter Al Hirt and his band play the Dixieland standard at a very fast tempo, and play double-time lines on top of that.

The result is three minutes of joy that borders on chaos.
