Tony Monaco

A talented if underrated organist

Tony Monaco switched from accordion to organ when he was 12 after hearing Jimmy Smith play.

He recorded his first album in 1976 when he was just 17 and he has since led 21 recordings including sessions that also featured fellow organist Joey DeFrancesco, guitarist Bruce Forman, and altoist Richie Cole.

Tony Monaco clearly had a good time utilizing a variety of unexpected sounds on this version of “There Will Never Be Another You,” joking around a bit while playing lightly swinging music with guitarist LaRue Nickelson and drummer Rick Costa.
