Hank Jones hailed from Vicksburg, Mississippi along with brothers Elvin and Thad Jones.
Moving to New York in 1944 he was unique in his transition to play bebop while still managing to maintain a lyrical style.
Hank died in the Bronx in May 2010 a short time after his return from performing in Japan.
At the 2009 Grammys he had been the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement award.
