Stan Getz plays his brand of beautiful music

Stan Getz had the most beautiful tone of any tenor-saxophonist yet he rarely coasted and always pushed himself in his solos.

From 1974, Getz performs Antonio Carlos Jobim’s “Wave” on a Danish television show.

Getz takes “Wave” at a perfect medium-up tempo, caresses the melody, and comes up with variations that are heated, very appealing and typically tasteful.

Personnel:

Stan Getz, tenor
Albert Dailey, piano
George Mraz, bass
Billy Hart, drums
Efrain Toro, percussion
