Bill Frisell began his career as a somewhat hyperactive avant-garde guitarist who jumped quickly between idioms, displaying both impressive technique and wit.
Through the years he has greatly slowed down his approach and now mostly plays laidback and melodic solos that are sometimes inspired by Nashville.
Still very much a creative player, Frisell caresses melodies and stretches out with subtle creativity, taking listeners along for a relaxed ride.
With his trio that also includes bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Rudy Royston, Frisell plays a James Bond theme from 1967, “You Only Live Twice,” with affection, going into some unexpected directions and using repetition inventively.
