In 1964, pianist Herbie Hancock recorded his composition “Canteloupe Island” in 1964 in a quartet with trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams; the song quickly became a jazz standard which has been played a countless number of times since.

In 1985 the same group plus tenor-saxophonist Joe Henderson performed an exciting version at a concert that honored the legacy of Blue Note Records.

Hubbard takes a spectacular solo, Henderson is as muscular and adventurous as always, and Hancock joyfully leads the grooving rhythm section before taking a soulful spot of his own.
