Lester Young performs “Mean to Me” on a 1958 episode of Art Ford’s Jazz Party.
The show aired on a local New York television channel and hosted a variety of acts during its thirty episode run, including legends like Billie Holiday, Coleman Hawkins, Roy Eldridge and Les Paul.
“Mean to Me” is a standard written by Fred E. Ahlert and Roy Turk in 1929. Lester Young appeared on one of the earliest and most famous recordings of the tune, a Billie Holiday single released in 1937.
