“The Days Of Wine And Roses” was one of Henry Mancini’s greatest compositions and probably the one most performed by jazz artists.

After stints with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and the Soft Winds, Herb Ellis (1921-2010) became famous for his nearly six-year stint as guitarist with the Oscar Peterson Trio (1953-58).

Ellis had a busy solo career after leaving Peterson and for a period was a member of The Great Guitars with fellow guitarists Barney Kessel and Charlie Byrd.

This version of “Days Of Wine And Roses” is from one of the Great Guitars’ tours with Ellis performing the Henry Mancini classic in a trio with bassist Joe Byrd (Charlie’s brother) and drummer Wayne Phillips.
