The Sound Of Jazz, which aired in Dec. 1957, was one of the greatest hours of jazz ever filmed.

One of the highlights was this exciting version of “Dickie’s Dream” by an all-star group led by pianist Count Basie.

Featured along the way (as Billie Holiday and Jimmy Rushing look on) are such greats as tenor-saxophonist Ben Webster, trombonist Benny Morton, trumpeter Emmett Berry, baritonist Gerry Mulligan, trombonist Vic Dickenson, trumpeter Roy Eldridge, trumpeter Joe Wilder, tenor-saxophonist Coleman Hawkins, trombonist Dickie Wells, trumpeter Doc Cheatham, and Basie, all driven by drummer Jo Jones.

Need I say more?
