A regular poll winner, Mary Halvorson is an inventive avant-garde guitarist with a sound and style all her own.

Attracted to the guitar by Jimi Hendrix, she began playing when she was 11, has led ten albums of her own, and has collaborated with many of the more adventurous players in jazz including Anthony Braxton and Tim Berne.

Playing solo guitar at a concert in Italy, Mary Halvorson is in a more mellow mood than usual on “Chelsea Hotel” and Carla Bley’s “Ida Lupino.”
