Liza

Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea

Mt. Fuji Jazz Festival, Yamanashi Prefecture, 1989

Composed by George Gershwins “Liza (All the Clouds’ll Roll Away)” was first introduced in the 1929 musical “Show Girl.” In the audience on opening night was pop singer Al Jolson, who stood up in the third row during the chorus and sang with the performers.

Not longer afterwards, Jolson’s own recording of the song would nearly top the charts. Since Art Tatum and Thelonious Monk have recorded covers.
