Michigan native Betty Carter was a jazz singer who helped popularize and pioneer scat singing. This performance was from a Weinstein Brothers production in which different artists interpreted the works of the famous German-American composer Kurt Weill.

Carter sings “Lonely House” to the piano accompaniment of young female pianist, Geri Allen.
