Anita O’Day (1919-2006) had a career that had its ups and downs but was definitely at its peak in the 1950s and early ‘60s.
After her early success singing with Gene Krupa’s orchestra, O’Day recorded a series of classic albums for Norman Granz’s labels in the 1950s, was a hit at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival (seen in the movie Jazz On A Summer’s Day), and continued her successes into the mid-1960s.
She is seen here performing “On Green Dolphin Street” in Sweden on Nov. 1, 1963 with pianist Goran Engdahl, bassist Roman Dylag, and drummer John Poole.
