Percussionist

Don Alias

The Interview

Don Alias played a full drum kit, though he was best known for congas and other types of hand drums.

Don played with Miles Davis, David Sanborn, Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock and many others, performing on hundreds of recordings.

He was born in NYC and went to Boston pursuing a career in medicine but after playing congas locally, changed to music.

He spent many Boston nights jamming in dorms at the Berkley School. The group “Stone Alliance” was the first in which Don was the band leader.
