One For The Woofer

Billy Taylor

Billy Taylor features bassist Chip Jackson on a swinging original

Pianist Billy Taylor and his trio pay tribute to the superb jazz bassist Oscar Pettiford with Taylor’s original “One For The Woofer.”

The performance, from the mid-1990s, puts the spotlight on the virtuosic bassist Chip Jackson who plays the melody in unison with Taylor, takes an impressive solo, trades off with the pianist, and constructs a climatic cadenza.

Billy Taylor also takes a fine solo during this performance.
